Production Evaluation

1. What do you feel is the most important area of learning that you have taken from this assignment? Look at all the production stages and ask your self which areas of this assignment have given you a new way of thinking or approaching you future projects. (50 Words)

Throughout this assignment I have improved my editing skills on the Macs. At first our footage wasn’t long enough, but then we were able to lengthen it with credits and subtitles, to explain to the audience exactly what was happening. We all took turns editing our footage, then we managed to break our trailer into three parts to make it fair.

2. From your finished project what parts are you most happy with? With the same level of consideration what areas do you feel you need to improve on? (50 Words)

I was most happy with the finished project because I think it looked professional. eg. Because of the font we used for the credits made it look ‘gory’, which is suitable for our trailer (Horror). If I wanted to improve on the footage I would put one of the clips into slow motion.

3. How well do you think you and your group worked in achieving all the goals that were set by the assignment brief? (50 Words)

Me, Charlotte and Raina worked well in a group because we all seemed to understand each other, but also be able to disagree and get over something. We didn’t set any specific goals at the beginning of the task, but as I said, overall our group had good teamwork.

4. What would you change or do differently in the next production? (50 Words)

In my next production I would like to take more than one shot of everything, because when it comes to editing I can put parts of clips together. As I have learnt from this assignment, it looked a bit ‘choppy’. We all agreed it didn’t make sense so we broke it up with credits/ subtitles.

5. How does your trailer fit with the look and style of a real example that you looked at in research, think about how your trailer looks and how it is edited (50 Words)

Our horror trailer obviously wasn’t as professional as the ones we looked at in our research, but we used some of their techniques/styles. Such as using credits and quick, sharp shot changes. I think the lighting used was too bright, and not ‘eary’ enough for horror, but it was difficult as we could only film during college hours (Daytime).

Task 1 , pre-production, horror trailor

For this task i will need to create a group of upto three people, i have chosen Charlotte and Raina. We have come up with a basic storyline and now need to make a; treatment, storyboard, script, risk assesment sheet and a recky sheet.
So far i have done an analysis sheet for 3 trailors i watched on http://www.imdb.com
this is what i saw:

* Phsycho
*Alien

Filming another script - production

Today, me and Amanda were given somebody elses script to act and edit, we chose Amanda to be acting and i me as director.
It was a bit confusing filming another groups script because the storyboard and the script didnt match towards the end, ie, the storyboard missed out a shot that was in the script.
Me and Amanda produced a script and storyboard for Stuart and Richard to film.
We also had to edit another groups footage, this got quite confusing.

Brokeback elvaluation exercise

We were givin a group of clips in imovie which we had to rearrange to make sense (Brokeback Mountain). I created the scene in the hut, at the end of the lesson we watched the film to compare our 'recreation' was correct. Mine wasn't completly right but close enough.
It got quite confusing when the man picked up the phone because one shot we can't see the phone just him talking. And some bits made sense different ways around.
Then i started arranging the shots for 'the bar scene'. I found this one easier becuase the camera isn't taken away from the men, so all i had to do was sort out their conversation so it made sense.

Video editing exercise

in todays lesson i named some clips from a film, rearranged them so they made sense, i decided to edit the hut scene.

Scene storyboard exercise

In todays lesson we a film trailor for 'There will be blood'. And then created a storyboard; we needed to do a minimum of 8 shots for this. Next i need to outline my drawings in a black ink pen (felt tip) then will scan this onto my blogger page.

Video Completed!

Finished! This morning we did the finishing touches to our editing, we put some music to the film, Daniel Powter, Bad Day.
We had one problem with one of our scenes, we could here my voice saying "Action!" so we cut this bit out.
After lunch we came back to finding our video on youtube! ::S
We are about to start watching evryone elses films soon..

Evaluating my contribution to PRODUCTION

· I was director and camera person.
· I put up warning signs to show other people that we were filming in “” area.
· We decided not to use the shot of Amanda’s moody face because it didn’t make sense when we watched it.
· Amanda was wearing different jeans, but it that noticable so we continued.

Evaluating my contribution to, Planning and PRE-PRODUCTION

Pre-production:

· As a group we created a brainstorm of our ideas for chase scene.
· We had a meeting with Chris to discuss our ideas and who is doing what, that went well, he told us we needed to make a couple of adjustments to our storyboard because it didn’t make sense.
· We had a few group discussions in which we all participated in, I had the idea of John and Amanda being at a computer, and John being the ‘intelligent’, teachers pet boy, and Amanda is supposed to be moody, a bully.
· We created a storyboard.
. We also created a shooting schedual.
. A Logging Sheet.
. A risk assesment form.
. Treatment sheet.
.Budgeting sheet.

Last lesson (monday) we needed to reshoot a few scenes, because the continuity wasnt right. We corrected this quickly and spent the rest of the lesson editing it on the macs. For the ; fighting over the bag shot, we needed to reshoot because the white balance wasn't set up, (the screen looked blue).

Video production

Today we finished our filming! I think the filming went reasonably well. Only problem was, the classroom we were planning on filming in was being used, so we had to find another room with computers, that was ok. I think we may need to reshoot one scene; of Neyo and Emily fighting over the bag because it didnt look realistic enough and we didnt set up the white balance. But overall the filming didnt take long, so we could get on with editing it on imovie after lunch on the macs.

Today we started filming. Our first shot was of Amanda coming out of the lift, then with John and Amanda in the corridor. tbc..

Yesterdays meeting

Yesterday we had a group meeting with Chris to discuss our plans and ideas for our chase scene. He liked our ideas but it needed a few ajustments on the story board because the audience wouldn't understand what happened to John at the end, (what he did).

Video work update

Today, out aim was to create a story board, a scirpt and complete our treatment sheet for the chase scene. We decided on a basic plan of a robbery from a classroom in the College, (John's bag).

We have all come up with a few ideas each and used parts of each one and put them together. It will begin with John in the classroom and Amanda arriving late, (in a bad mood). She starts pushing John against the wall and taking her anger out.

Later today we will have a meeting with Chris to discuss our ideas and plans for our short two minute film. This will take place at 2.10.

Video discussion

Today we are planning our ideas and writing a script. We have Chosen Amanda and John to act, and me to be director/photographer. Later today we will be creating a storyboard.

So far we have decided that Amanda has said something insulting to John so he takes his revenge by chasing Amanda down the street or corridor...
